The Missing Foundation: Before Your Protocols Can Work…
This isn't another protocol to add to your list. This is the foundational work your doctor isn't trained for, traditional talk therapy wasn't designed for, and your PT doesn't have time for in a 45-minute insurance visit.
SURVIVAL → SAFETY → SOVEREIGNTY
SURVIVAL — Where You Are Now
Your system is stuck in chronic activation, shutdown, or cycling between the two. Not because you're broken—because your nervous system adapted to keep you functioning under sustained demand.
The work: Recognition through sensation tracking. I assess your baseline state—posture, breath mechanics, movement patterns. You learn to read your own nervous system's signals.
SAFETY — The Recalibration
Building your system's capacity to regulate through co-regulated practice and targeted interventions.
The work: We practice downshifting under controlled conditions. Your nervous system builds new neural pathways for regulation. This capacity expands over time—you don't "complete" this stage, you deepen it.
SOVEREIGNTY — The Outcome
Authentic agency over your responses. You've reclaimed authority over your own nervous system.
What this means: Clarity without approval-seeking. Boundaries without explanation. The quiet confidence that other people's opinions have nothing to do with you. This is self-determination, not better coping skills.
Why "Setbacks" Are Actually Progress
This process isn't linear. As your capacity expands, you'll revisit survival patterns at deeper levels. That's not regression—it's the spiral of integration.
What this looks like in practice:
You might have three good weeks where your sleep improves, your baseline tension releases, and you feel more regulated. Then a stressful week hits, and suddenly you're back in familiar patterns—jaw clenched, sleep disrupted, old anxiety returning.
High-achieving women typically interpret this as: "I'm doing it wrong. It's not working. I've failed again."
What's actually happening: Your nervous system now has enough capacity to process material it couldn't touch before. The pattern surfacing isn't failure—it's your system finally able to address what it's been holding.
This is incremental work. The body moves more slowly than the mind. Progress doesn't look like a steady upward trajectory—it looks like expanding capacity to navigate increasingly complex material without total system collapse.
The goal isn't to NOT feel activated. The goal is to expand your range—to handle more stress with less dysregulation, and to return to baseline faster when you do get activated.
The Assessment & Optimization Process
Phase 1: Baseline Assessment (Session 1)
What happens:
Clinical assessment of your nervous system state
Identification of specific dysregulation patterns
Assessment of your current autonomic range
Baseline measurement of where tension is locked in your system
What you leave with:
Clear understanding of what's actually happening in your body
Targeted approach for your specific pattern
Immediate practices to begin expanding regulation capacity
Phase 2: Capacity Building (Sessions 2-5)
What happens:
Co-regulated practice to expand your system's flexibility
Real-time somatic tools for managing dysregulation
Progressive challenge to build tolerance under demand
Integration of regulation skills into daily routines
What you're developing:
Ability to identify activation before it escalates
Capacity to downshift without external intervention
Sustainable access to calm that holds under pressure
Phase 3: Integration Under Demand (Sessions 6-10)
What happens:
Application of regulation capacity to real-world challenges
High-stakes scenario practice (difficult conversations, sustained pressure)
Refinement of your personal practice
Building sovereignty—authority over your own responses
Clients often experience:
Restoration of sleep architecture
Reduction in baseline activation
Expansion of your window of tolerance
Decisive action without constant mental negotiation
What Happens After Your Session Series?
At the end of your session series, you'll have established the capacity for independent regulation of the nervous system and a sustainable daily practice. Some clients return periodically for "tune-ups" as life circumstances shift. Others continue their practice independently. The methodology becomes yours—not dependent on ongoing sessions with me.
Between Sessions: The 3 C's
Results don't come from knowledge—they come from a session series with intention and progression, shaped by what emerges for you specifically.
My approach is built around the 3 C's:
Commitment: 15-20 minutes of daily practice, even when you don't feel like it
Convenience: Short practices that fit into gaps in your existing life—no special equipment, no elaborate setup
Consistency: Repeated exposure over time, not occasional heroic effort
Your nervous system learns through frequency, not intensity.
Daily practice outperforms weekly attempts because regulation builds through repetition.
This isn't about perfection—it's about having a structure and accountability that makes showing up realistic and sustainable.
The Foundation That Makes Everything Else Work
You've already spent thousands on interventions that couldn't stick—antidepressants that worked then stopped, therapy insights that didn't translate, pelvic floor PT that didn't resolve urgency, and hormone optimization that didn't restore energy.
They couldn't work because your nervous system was stuck in survival physiology—struggling to metabolize medication, process therapy insights, or hold protocol gains
This is what you address first. The prerequisite that makes everything else finally integrate.

This Work Requires Your Commitment
What I provide:
Baseline assessment of your nervous system state
Targeted interventions specific to your dysregulation pattern
Sequencing of somatic practices because throwing the kitchen sink doesn’t work
Co-regulated practice to expand your autonomic and emotional range
Integration support as you apply skills under real-world demand
This isn't passive healing.
It's active recalibration—rewiring that happens through your consistent practice between sessions, not just our time together.
If you're ready to address the foundation that makes everything else finally work, let's talk.
Client Experience…
“Heidi's compassion helped me understand my nervous system patterns in ways nothing else had. Working somatically with her, I've moved long-held stuck places that no other process could shift. I've felt safe and in knowledgeable care every session. I highly recommend working with Heidi.” - Chris
FAQs
-
No. This work is self-pay only. I don't bill insurance because this is clinical nervous system optimization, not medical treatment. You may be able to use HSA/FSA funds—check with your provider.
-
Traditional talk therapy works top-down—processing experiences cognitively. This work is bottom-up—restoring your nervous system's regulatory capacity so cognitive insights can actually integrate. Many clients do both simultaneously.
-
This work complements therapy. Many clients find that their therapy becomes more effective once they have foundational nervous system regulation. I'm happy to coordinate with your therapist if helpful.
-
Most interventions treat symptoms downstream of a dysregulated nervous system. This addresses the foundation—why your system can't hold gains from other treatments.
-
Possibly. This work often reduces pharmaceutical dependence where appropriate, but I support integration with necessary medical intervention, not replacement of it.
-
I don't diagnose or treat anxiety or depression. I work with the nervous system dysregulation that often underlies these experiences. Many clients report significant shifts in these symptoms as their regulatory capacity improves.
-
Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice are charged in full. Packages are non-refundable but transferable with prior arrangement.
-
Most clients see measurable shifts within 5 sessions. Deeper reorganization typically takes 10+ sessions. This varies based on your history and current capacity.
-
Somatic Experiencing® is a body-based approach to resolving trauma and restoring nervous system regulation, developed by Dr. Peter Levine. It works with sensation and the body's innate capacity to heal, rather than primarily through cognitive processing.
-
Research on Somatic Experiencing ® shows significant reductions in PTSD symptoms, improved heart rate variability, and reduced cortisol levels. I can provide specific citations upon request.
